The Nigerian-Canadian High School Student
An Interview with Daniel – a Nigerian Canadian high school student
What is Nigerian food like? What’s your favorite Nigerian food?
-
A lot of Nigerian food is mainly spicy. There’s also an uncanny addiction to onions in a lot of Nigerian dishes. My favorite Nigerian food is Jollof rice—it comforts me every time I eat it, and it also reminds me of Nigeria.
What is the environment in Nigeria like?
-
It doesn’t look that great—it’s very desolate and dirty in many places. Especially compared to Canada, where there are many trees, lakes, oceans, mountains, and clean air, the environment in Nigeria is pretty dirty. Some parts are beautiful, though.
What would you say a typical Nigerian person is like?
-
It varies quite a lot from person to person—some people are very energetic and friendly, the others are rude and sensitive. But for the most part, people are very energetic and friendly, and a lot of people are very close with each other.
What makes Nigeria special?
-
Nigeria has a lot of different language dialects, and a lot of tribes, so there are a lot of different cultures as a collective country. There’s also a high population density and richness in oil and other natural resources. It also has a lot of my friends, so it’s special to me.
